devilish yummyness. i keep the seeds in a bolw and use them for yogurts and salads or just for a nice snack. and they are really good for you! i always make a mess opening these, however if you want to have a clean pomegranate experience here is a video that tells you how to cut open a pomegranate without making a mess!

i love orange juice, specially when it's made with a home juicer and it's full of pulp! but i always disliked the sticky hands when one eats an orange. but there is a way not to get our hands dirty and still enjoy it. cut the orange in half without peeling it, then in quarters, half moon shaped. then you can pick them up and eat them with one bite, just make sure your quarters are small, then it won't be messy and so yummy!

finally finished and mailed the sketchbook for the sketchbook project. here is my favorite piece from that book, i ended up making a large version of it that folds out, there are also complementary stickers in the back if you make it to one of the show locations.

pears are so yummy, specially if they are ripe like this one. i remember as a kid in summer camp having pears for desert and them melting in my mouth so sweet. i did not care for fruit much, only bananas, but those pears where amazing! now i can find tasty pears from upstate new york right here in nyc and they are just as tasty as those i remember from summer camp. such a treat. i think i am going to eat one right now!

i just started working on a project that i wanted to do long ago. i am going to look at the food we have available to us, the good food we have in our modern world of abundance. if one lives in the desert there is nothing but millet and camel milk to eat for days and people get by. we have so much. i marvel at the fruits and vegetables available to us at any time (i am a vegetarian), all the nuts and grains, oils and dairy. so much variety. we are so lucky.

"banana" is the common name for herbaceous plants of the genus musa and for the fruit they produce. find out more about bananas at wikipedia and at banana.com you can find all kinds of information and recipes.

everybody is feeling better. it was a tough virus/bacteria to beat.

yesterday we went to sintra to the forest, we had a picnic at the "magic mountain". this is a small area in the forest pictured above. it is truly beautiful.

everybody is sicky following our return. i guess it takes a while to get reaquainted with the local viruses and bacteria. fortunatly we still have a health care system in portugal and can see a doctor for free and get our meds at afordable prices. i know there are a lot of complaints here, but after the no-health care experience in the states i see things differently. and for some reason me and the boys always get five star treatment at the local medical center! see more pics of the sick day at flickr.

this saturday we returned to our usual spot, a beach called ribeira d'ilhas in ericeira. we had some friends with us so there where a bunch of small boys running around. we stayed until sunset.

we are back in lisbon. the kids are going to school. after school we spend two hours in this park, jardim da estrela. you can see a site about this park made by students of the local highschool here (in portuguese). and you can see a couple more pictures at flickr.

on saturday leo and i came to new york city to attend a rooftop party at my friend tommy's place. leo was so excited, when he got off the bus he said "i like new york city better than montauk and better than portugal!", i asked him why, and he said "because it is so big!". from tommy's rooftop he could see the empire state building, which according to him was "spiderman's house". sunday morning we hit the east village playgrounds, look how grown-up he is! he is four years old now:

homage to my new favorite illustrator, harry wingfield. check his work out here. i wish he was alive and i could take classes from him. he died in 2001 with the wholesome age of 91.
i made these drawings when leo started to speak because he was obsessed with vehicles. now since iggy is starting to speak, i thought of them again. see iggy speak here.
